Thanks to NAAQG members (Yolanda Cofield, Rhonda Masters, Veronica McCall, Guinevere Mills, Cheryl Milton, Sharon Mooney, and Charlene Morrison) for the beautiful donation of quilts to the SCDAA Auction. This auction will help celebrate the 50th anniversary of the organization. As soon as the auction is launched we will provide the link.

Souls at Sea Quilt Presentation

The Souls at Sea Quilt was the result of a unique collaboration between the Universal Sailing Club (USC) (Baltimore, Maryland) and the National African American Quilt Guild (NAAQG) to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the USC’s Souls at Sea Program, a land and water based commemorative ceremony which honors the lives lost during the Middle Passage of the Transatlantic Slave Trade.  The quilters of NAAQG are honored and excited to have participated in this very special project and to donate this quilt to the Souls at Sea Program of the USC. The project has allowed us to use our love of quilting to honor the lives and legacies and spirits of our captive forbearers and to support the continued important, educational and uplifting work of the Souls at Sea program and educational programs of the Universal Sailing Club.  NAAQG block makers were Renee Anderson, Laura Casmore, Doris Gross, Amanda Hunter, Roxie Jones, Juana Mangoang, Rhonda Masters, Veronica McCall, Rose Miller, Guinevere Mills, Sharon Mooney, Vernita Robinson, Sandra Schmidt, Cynthia Malachi White, and Cynthia Wyche. Representing NAAQG at the presentation was Sandra Schmidt, Cynthia Wyche, Guinevere Mills and Doris Gross.
